What is our mission?

Warmth to the Rescue is repurposing fabric waste into warmth and protection for neighbors experiencing homelessness, while collaborating with community nonprofits to build bridges to resources.

What is Our Second Stitch Program?

Warmth to the Rescue members and volunteers go and pick up used clothing and other textiles from donors, and we have plans to open drop off points in the future. We take the donations, sort them into redistributable clothing/items and take them to neighboring Nonprofit outreach programs to get the items to the people in need. For clothing or textiles that are damaged or have other quality issues, we cut and repurpose the fabric, stitching pieces back into blankets to be distributed to the homeless populations that are forced onto the streets during the months where daily lows average less than 45 degrees.

What are we trying to change?

We recognized that there is a lot of fabric waste in the world, and a lot of homeless people are struggling to stay warm during the wintertime. Where we originally would take donations then wash and distribute everything back out ourselves, we have now changed our path and believe our new focus has a better chance at helping the public survive our worsening freezing temperatures and intense seasonal accumulation. We are dedicated to keeping people safe and healthy in the cold, assist in resolving the fabric waste of our society, and laying the groundwork for our future efforts in advocating for basic human needs of individuals without shelter.

How are we trying to make this change?

Our goals are simple; we want to ensure no one dies of temperature-related illness while reducing waste. Our team recognizes that we are at a point in time where technology and society are too far advanced to not provide every living person with shelter, clothing, and other basic human needs. Everyone deserves the right to housing, food, water, clothing, health care, etc., to sustain modern living, and suffering from hypothermia, frost bite, and other devastating injuries or illnesses is unacceptable.
We do have plans to move into bigger operations in the future, but those will come after we lay the foundation for our coming efforts in changing our world.

How are we going to make it happen?

One of the biggest pipelines of donations come from donors on Facebook, and after seeing this we have started to work more with social media. We are currently spreading word of our work through local groups or chapters in the locations our board members live, offering pick up services of fabric or clothing items. We have also been working with local businesses and organizations to help spread knowledge of our work.

Not only do we use social media to obtain donations, we are also using it to help recruit volunteers and we are building a network of individuals who are ready and willing to help those in need.

In the near future, we look to partner with larger clothing brands or companies that could potentially offer larger amounts of clothing to hopefully increase the number blankets we can make in a year while reducing massive amounts of waste.
